  • Entre les murs (the Class) – a personal film by a former teacher who tells of his year in a racially charged classroom in a Parisian suburb
  • Up in the Air – the first truly American film that I’ve seen in a long time. It takes a hard look at current transitions, be them economic or with human interactions. It visits cities all throughout middle America
  • Hurt Locker – an intimate and apolitical view of Iraq from the perspective of an American bomb squad
  • Gomorrah – a view into mafia life in Naples. The author of the book went into hiding after exposing the inner workings of the deal. The film had no death threats but many awards
  • District 9 – a sci-fi look at the “other”, set in Joberg, South Africa
  • Collapse – Michael Ruppert discusses what happens when capitalism’s requirement for permanent growth pushes against peak oil. The most disturbing conspiracy theory/fact film you can see
  • Up – When a Disney film opens the Cannes Film festival, you know it’s good. Plus it’s 3D
  • In the Loop – The most hysterical look at the lead up to the Iraq war []
  • Burma VJ – a docudrama presenting itself as a documentary, this will probably win the Oscar for best documentary this year
